Research task 1 

Example- clueless 

1. The main image on both the dvd cover and the film poster contains the main character and her 2 best friends, for the dvd cover the characters are in a big heart so, the shot type is a mid shot. This allows us to clearly see the facial expressions on the 3 characters faces, showing their confidence and happiness. Having them placed in the centre of the covers allows us to see that these are the main characters and from the way they are positioned we can clearly see that the girls are being represented as very pretty girls who are confident in the themselves. 

2. The title on this dvd cover is placed in the centre at the very top of the DVD cover, this immediately brings attention to the title. The title is in a sans serif font, which can connote the modernity of this classic teen drama.

4. The colour palette for this film is very bright and pink, this could connote romance and femininity. However it can also represent the sweetness and sensitivity of the characters in this film.

5. The film poster for Clueless allows us to see who the main characters are, however the colour choices, such as red which connotes love, that are included in this film poster suggest that the film has a slight hint of romantic drama. Due to the setting in the back ground and also the clothing choices we can understand that these characters have a large amount of money as they are all dressed in nice clothing but also are set in a big stairway in a house. 

6. The colour palette for this film is very bright and pink, this could connote femininity and the indications of red could symbolise the romance . However it can also represent the sweetness and sensitivity of the characters in this film, hinting towards the storyline of the film.

7.  In the film poster there are a few different fonts that we can see being used, the san serif of the clueless title symbolises the modernity of the film. However, the squiggly writing at the top and bottom of the film poster connotes a hint of childish behaviour as it is very informal. 

8. the genre conventions that can be found in typical teen drama consist of, bright colours to symbolise the fun and hints of childhood. Most teen drama also have some sort of romantic colour such as red or pink as this can link to the common romantic story line that is a typical genre of a teen drama. Teen dramas often hold genre conventions that symbolise the typical life of a teenager. i can use this information when planning my film poster as i will need to include certain colours and certain shot types of my actors. 

9. Most teen dramas highlight the normality of teenage emotions and characteristics,  the overall message often is the message of unity and togetherness that comes with strong teenage friendships this is seen in clueless as the film poster has 3 friends. I can include this is my film poster by directing my characters to certain positions to highlight friendship and unity, the theme of love can also not just be seen in relation ships but also friendships so i can include this as well.
